For many years, we have included a photo shoot as part of BirdFest.  The rookery we have visited has mainly Great White Egrets nesting.  The Great Whites nest early and the chicks are out in mid-April during BirdFest.  Due to circumstances beyond our control, we do not have access to this rookery for BirdFest 2016.  There are no other rookeries with early nesting birds nearby.  But, if we wait until birds that nest later in the year are available there are a few other options. There are rookeries with birds such as Snowy Egrets, Cattle Egrets, and Little Blue Herons that we can visit at that time and several of them are close to the dry land from which you can shoot.  These birds nest later and the chicks will not be there to photograph until mid-June.

So, although it will not be during the normal Great Louisiana BirdFest time we will have a BirdFest Photo Shoot.  We have not yet made firm plans for June, but recommend that, if you are interested, you register now.  There will be no charge to do so and registering now will accomplish two things.  First, we will be able to get in touch with you when we have firm plans so that you can, if you wish, register for the trip.  Second, one of the rookeries we are considering will have limited capacity. By registering now, you will have first priority.
